Nanodefine

The European Commission's flagship project to implement the recommendation for the definition of a nanomaterial in the various sector regulations, the NanoDefine project was launched in 2013 and completed at the end of 2017.

The aim of this project was to assess the strengths and limitations of most of the analytical techniques available on the market for determining particle size distribution. It also led to the development of a decision tree, implemented in the NanoDefiner e-tool, to help industrial players choose the most appropriate characterization technique for a given situation (type of nanomaterial, type of matrix, etc.) as part of the nanomaterial identification process. Harmonized and validated measurement protocols have also been developed.
