Objectives and missions

Setting up a place where industry, researchers and laboratories can exchange best practices in the field, collaborate and work together to identify the needs and priorities to be targeted in terms of pre-standardization and recognition of characterization and testing methods should support the development of safer and more sustainable innovations around nanomaterials on the basis of reliable and comparable data.

The target community includes producers and users of nanomaterials, manufacturers of measuring instruments, service laboratories and analytical platforms, as well as government and academic research laboratories.

"A unique entry point for structuring a nanomaterials industry based on reliable data".

Connecting players

The organization of events, the setting up of regular webinars and the mapping of analytical platforms and characterization tools available in the region should help to bring together needs and expertise.

Coordinating pre-standardization actions

The validation of harmonized characterization tools and methods is an essential prerequisite for producing data in which all stakeholders can have confidence. Numerous initiatives exist in this field, and coordinating efforts is key to focusing available resources on priority topics. Similarly, the laboratories deploying these reference methodologies must be able to demonstrate their skills in the field through mechanisms to be devised together.

Sharing information and best practices

As nanomaterials are a diverse topic, there are many players and initiatives working on the subject. Sharing information once it has been "digested" is therefore essential to help stakeholders invest their efforts in the right place, while avoiding "reinventing the wheel". Disseminating best practices is also key to ensuring that stakeholders take them into account when developing their products.

Act as an interface with public authorities and key bodies in the field

Establishing a dialogue between all stakeholders on a consolidated scientific and technical basis should help to "dispassionate" the debate surrounding nanomaterials. The ecosystem is nonetheless complex, with government agencies at French and European level, standards bodies (AFNOR, CEN, ISO, ASTM), l' OECD or research funding agencies.
