The European MetrINo (Metrology for Innovative NanoTherapeutics) project, funded by the European Partnership on Metrology (EPM), is an ambitious European initiative aimed at making Europe a leader in nanomedicine metrology to make the European health technology industry more competitive.
Coordinated by LNE, it is supported by a multidisciplinary consortium of 9 national metrology institutes, the European Technology Platform for Nanomedicine (ETPN), 2 SMEs, 1 pharmaceutical company, 1 hospital and 6 academic partners. MetrINo's main focus is on the development and validation of traceable measurement methods and reference materials for the quality assessment of innovative drugs and medical devices (clinical formulations) containing nanomaterials, including lipid-based synthetic particles such as liposomes and LNP-RNAs, and metal oxide nanoparticles.
This project is the first concrete outcome of the Workshop organized by LNE in June 2022 to identify the needs and priorities of the various French stakeholders in the field (https://www.lne.fr/fr/actualites/nanomedecine-caracterisation-retours-workshop-2022), and is linked to exchanges initiated within the Nanomedicine Working Group of the NanoMesureFrance Association.
